Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 1st & 2nd April 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

We spoke to Nigel this morning in the week before the 2017 Grand National (the race he has won twice with Earth Summit and Bindaree), and will be looking for the hat trick this year with Blaklion, who Nigel reports to be fit and well and very much on target for the big one. Before then we had a few runners to discuss for the weekend, some over jumps and even some on the flat.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £50 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this weekend the money will be on…..

Uttoxeter 3.40pm Saturday – Allthegear No Idea at 6/1 Each Way

“Just the six runners here and mine sneaks in off bottom weight which could well be all he needs to be successful. The softer the ground the better for the son of Sayarshan and with an extra half mile for him this afternoon I am hoping for a really big run and am happy to make him my charity bet this Saturday afternoon.”

If Allthegear No Idea scores, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday’s Other Runners:

I Am Colin 3.20pm Stratford

“After winning his first race this season at Bangor I had high hopes for him this year but he hasn’t been himself since and has been pulled up twice since from just the two efforts. I have been careful with him at home and nursed him back slowly but I think he may be over his ailments now and he looks a different horse again on the schooling grounds so fingers crossed for a much improved effort”.

Aldeburgh 4.25pm Kempton

“He is a decent enough sort but hasn’t really got on as well as I hoped on the softer ground over hurdles so I am sending him back for a flat career where he will get better ground more suited to his action. He is fit enough to do himself justice and could well surprise, and I will be disappointed if we don’t pick up some place money at the very least.”

Muckle Roe 5.25pm Uttoxeter

“He hasn’t done a lot wrong all season with a top four placing in all five runs including a win at Warwick on New Years Eve. Top weight obviously won’t help his chances but Jamie Bargary takes three pounds off his back and is great value for his claim and I’m still expecting a big run dropped in class this afternoon.”

5.00pm Kempton Golden Jubilee

“I am stepping him up to two miles this afternoon and I’m hoping the added trip will bring about the improvement I am looking for. He shows plenty at home and has won eight races and is no back number, and off a rating of 75 he ought to go well if I am right about the trip!”

Sunday runners:

Astracad 4.15pm Ascot

“He has already won an “OAP” (Veteran’s) race at Cheltenham and could surprise them all again this afternoon with Sam in the saddle and I am pretty hopeful he hasn’t stopped his winning just yet. He has own off of this rating and higher in the past so we aren’t asking for miracles, but the three miles is a question mark though the predicted Good ground will give him every chance of getting home today.”
