Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Cheltenham Runners 16/03/2018

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Where does the time go. One minute we are starting off at Cheltenham, the next it is all drawing to a close so we have one last chance to gauge the thoughts of the master trainer who only has the two (or possibly three) runners on the last day but is as enthused as ever for the best meeting on the planet bar none after Splash Of Ginge went agonisingly close yesterday afternoon.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this afternoon it will be on……

Calett Mad Each Way 2.50pm Cheltenham Friday

“We could do with the ground drying up a little which doesn’t seem too likely I am sorry to say, but he has been in great form all season and is perhaps the best of my two (or three) this afternoon, if only each way to smaller stakes. He has already picked up three of his six starts this season at trips from three to three and a quarter miles so a fast run race here will play to his strengths but I am still a little wary of his abilities on this going.  ”

If Calett Mad wins or places, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Friday Runners:

Arthur’s Gift 4.50pm Cheltenham

First reserve again so unlikely to get a run as things stand. Decent enough and plenty of good form for me this year but to be fair this is asking a lot of him and the race is a bit of a lottery regardless.

Foxtail Hill 5.30pm Cheltenham

“Although he may be better over two and a half miles I have sent him here as a fast run race on soft ground at Cheltenham over two miles plus will feel like two and a half by the time they cross the finishing line. He needs a career best off this mark but don’t forget, he beat Saphir Du Rheu here over two miles five in January last year and when he is at his best, he is a decent enough horse.”
