The Australian winter has been difficult in a lot of facets but, 4 Aussie NAP winners in the last few days of August as well as 6 NB’s suggested that the luck was turning and this morning, as August turned to September, the Wizard blossomed back into life as the classier horses begin to make their reappearances for another summer of quality action.

The NAP got the Acca ball rolling at Pakenham this morning, El Sicario, a New Zealand recruit ran out a very easy 3 length winner. Entries in the Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate look a little on the ambitious side on the bare face of this form but he is clearly going the right way and is open to plenty more improvement on the back of this 1/1 NAP win.

Fabvier cost $350,000 at the sales and she went some way to gaining some back with a maiden win in the 2nd leg of the Acca at Goulburn. She is another with a Gunineas entry (the 1000) and similarly to El Sicario, she will need to step up plenty on this effort to make that a realistic option in 5 and a half weeks time but this was a pleasing three length win.

So it was all down to the NB, Harlow Gold, back on the synthetic surface at Pakenham. The market suggested that it was a three horse race but it turned out to be all about just one. The NB sauntered home four lengths to the good with a pair of outsiders in second and third to claim a £145 winning Acca as well as a 7th NB WINNER in the last 10 days, tipped up at 9/5!
