Get Layed – Free Horse Racing Lay Tips

Welcome to our new article – “Get Layed” – where we will give a daily horse (or two) which we don’t think will win! Laying involves offering odds that the horse won’t win – you are the bookie! If they lose, you win the stake of the bettor, if they win, you have to pay out the bettors profit.

Note: you can’t lay horses on any of the normal bookies, only on Exchanges. Betfair is the biggest and best betting Exchange with the most liquidity, so we’d recommend using them.

Our lays are BACK! Our lays are currently FOUR from FOUR and each day we will be bringing you one or two lay bets which you can follow yourself. If you don’t lay, you can read this daily article to avoid backing our lays!

8.20 Kempton – Lay, Saved My Bacon at 4.0

The 8.20 at Chelmsford is the totepoolliveinfo.com Handicap for four year-olds plus and runs over the minimum trip of five furlongs. A class four contest comprised of seven runners, this is a tricky little race in which I am laying the current joint favourite SAVED MY BACON at 4.0 on the machine.

Starting life as a 3 year-old, Saved My Bacon has had some happy hunting since turning four having won three from eight races and placed on a further two occasions. This has seen his handicap rating rise from 48 at the start of the year to a mighty 70 from which he races off today on official ratings. A total of 22lbs of improvement is not to be sniffed at, especially on the all-weather. His last run was perhaps his most impressive at today’s track when easily quickening clear of the field over five furlongs in a class 5, notching up a very comfortable 3 and 3/4 lengths victory. Saved My Bacon was clearly well treated that day receiving weight from all of the field racing off a bottom mark of 60 against horses rated up to 78.

Today’s race takes place in a similar fashion to last time with Saved My Bacon once again taking the role of bottom weight and receiving as much as a stone from the top of the weights Oh So Sassy. However, today Saved My Bacon must tackle far stronger opponents to last time with five of the seven runner field with ratings in the 80’s of which he has yet to face. The very smart Cam Hardie is an eye-catching booking aboard Cruise Tothelimit and could well make all the difference with his 3lb claim. He’s not won since racing off a mark of 78 but that was in a class four and he has been racing in very strong class two and three races recently and the step back down in grade and weight could just see him go close at a tasty 6’s.

Oh So Sassy is the joint market leader and she also drops down in grade having battled out class two and three contests just like Cruise Tothelimit. She hasn’t faced a class four contest since last June which she won with a great deal of ease. George Baker was on board that day and he is again today as the mare goes down 2lbs on official ratings allowing her to compete in class four races again. She’s always been well backed when she’s run well and today’s market confidence would certainly have to make you hopeful that she will be bang there at the finish.

Hayley Turner keeps the faith with Artic Lynx who Saved My Bacon beat last time out over Conor Dore’s other inmate Desert Strike. It’s hard to see him reversing the form and preference would be for Desert Strike to see if he could rekindle the form of his Lingfield win in April of this year.

Having never faced a class four contest, Saved My Bacon must really prove himself today against far better horses. He is an improving horse who has come on a lot since the start of the year but today I will be laying him as I believe he will be caught out by stronger opposition foiling his fast turn of foot in the final furlong. Oh So Sassy has to be the main opposition having seen early market confidence and a return to class four company with George Baker booked. So today’s lay is SAVED MY BACON at 4.0.
