19:00 - Chelmsford City Preview & Tips
IN SUMMARY: BOWERMAN is something of an unknown quantity but his maiden success at Kempton was impressive and he’s open to any amount of improvement. A mark of 87 looks generous and he’s been handed a kind draw so he should take all the beating. Belgian Bill can give him most to think about now dropped in grade and the weights.
Certainly isn't anywhere near his peak form at present although he has posted some solid efforts lately. A one pound lower mark and drop in grade could see him spring back to life from stall 1.
C Note (IRE) | J: Tom Marquand T: Heather Main
Will improve for his first start for Heather Main following an absence of nearly a year. He ran with credit that day but far more will be needed today to trouble the judge. The tongue tie left on.
Holiday Magic (IRE) | J: Harrison Shaw T: Michael Easterby
Hit a period of rapid improvement last winter which saw him shoot up the handicap. He's shown little of that form on the turf this summer and he was a disappointing tenth last time out. Best watched at present.
Mr Bossy Boots (IRE) | J: Joey Haynes T: Amanda Perrett
Last victory came in July 2016 for Ralph Beckett in a Class 2 handicap off a pound higher mark. He's produced mixed form since then over varying trips of 7f and a mile and he's best watched again now back down in grade.
Kickboxer (IRE) | J: Daniel Muscutt T: Michael Appleby
Won a decent Thirsk handicap earlier in the season off a 5lb higher mark and he's struggled in big field handicaps since. He's been dropped 4lbs for a moderate effort last time out and connections experiment with a step up in trip to a mile today.
Chevallier | J: Luke Morris T: Archie Watson
Has become a different horse since arriving at Archie Watson's stable with a string of wins and placed efforts. He's been dropped a pound having bumped into a useful sort last time out and needs to do more in this tougher grade.
Kentuckyconnection (USA) | J: Graham Lee T: Bryan Smart
Ran in the 2000 Guineas once upon a time but his sole success from 16 starts came in a maiden on racecourse debut in July 2015. He's slowly dropping down the weights but this race is stronger than when beaten 4 1/2 lengths at Kempton last time out.
London (FR) | J: Josephine Gordon T: Phil McEntee
Ex-Aidan O'Brien runner who won a Class 4 Epsom handicap with authority in October. He's produced mixed form since and switches to the All-Weather for the first time since last winter. Has the ability to progress past a mark of 89 and stall 4 helps.
Believe It (IRE) | J: Stephen Cummins T: Richard Hughes
Improving all the time for the Richard Hughes stable. He races off a mark of 87 today having begun his handicap career off a mark of 54 and he looks weighted up to his best at present. He's been tried over different trips lately and connections are looking for alternatives to improve him again. No headgear today.
Sibilance | J: Richard Kingscote T: Ralph Beckett
Lightly-raced 3yo filly who won a Class 2 Kempton handicap off a mark of 81 on his seasonal debut. She's struggled off marks in the 90's since and is dropped down to a mark of 88 today. She's respected now switched back to the All-Weather and this company. Stall 5 is fine.
Bowerman | J: Jack Mitchell T: Roger Varian
Promising colt who was purchased for 150,000 Guineas as a yearling. He hacked up in a Kempton maiden in April by 3 3/4 lengths although he's not been seen since. Stall 2 is perfect and a mark of 87 could easily underestimate his ability. Respected.
Loyalty | J: Patrick Mathers T: Derek Shaw
One of the more experienced runners in the field now aged a grand 10 years-old. He's been handed a poor draw in stall 11 and his overall form needs improvement to beat some useful sorts in the field. Best watched.
