GRAN GESTE went in the notebook last time out at Leopardstown, in a race where nothing went right for him. Held up last in a race that turned into a sprint, he did well to get as close as he did given that he had to wait for a gap to open up at the top of the straight. He is clearly better than that and still massively unexposed. True Self and Voix Du Reve head the list of dangers, especially if the soft ground dries out further. It would be no surpise to see Yaha Fizz improve on his debut for Gordon Elliott.

Smart juvenile hurdler last season, he has not enjoyed fences despite a debut win. First time blinkers replace his usual cheekpieces but deep ground has never been his favoured surface, especially having to concede weight all round.

Solid enough handicap debut last time, failing to live up to market expectations, however. That race turned into a sprint up the straight which won’t have suited him, this bigger field can help him but does need a bit more on that.

Went in a number of notebooks on handicap debut over Christmas when fitted with headgear. Flopped badly at the same track last time at the Dublin Festival, with this race not looking any easier. Trip and ground are fine but hard to trust.

Got a great front running ride to score over course and distance in January. This big field won't be so easy to dominate as that one was, but he has no issues with conditions. Decent on the flat in his youth, his opening hurdling mark looks perfectly fair.

Didn't find the race to suit at Leopardstown last time out. Held up last in a race that turned into a sprint, he did well to get as close as he did having struggled to get a run at the top of the straight. Clearly better than that with conditions to suit, he is a very interesting youngster.

Has struggled a little this season following a close second from this mark in November. Conditions will suit him well but he was behind Gran Geste two runs back, an effort that makes him hard to support.

Winner over hurdles in France, he has not made much of an impression in a pair of starts for this yard. Opening mark is based on his Strasbourg success which demands a massive upgrade on his Irish form to get involved.
Uradel silk
J: P. Townend T: W. P. Mullins, Ireland
Last two wins have both come off the back of large breaks, something he doesn’t have here. Latest novice win was fair enough, his opening handicap mark is going to demand more of him on deeper ground. Will have to find extra to win this.

J: B. J. Cooper T: W. P. Mullins, Ireland
Solid performance in a Listed race the only time we have seen him this season. That was on heavy ground, his progression last year on a sounder surface. This is arguably going to be soft enough for him still, but the handicapper hasn't been harsh with his mark.

Decent novice continued his run of form in his early efforts this season, placed in a pair of solid handicaps. Has moved to Gordon Elliott since disappointing the last twice, wouldn't be the first to improve for that. Conditions suit and proven here so each way player.

Struggled with his handicap mark since landing the Galway Hurdle last August. His mark is still five pounds higher than that success despite some poor displays, difficult to give much of a chance to. Galway Hurdle winner has struggled with his mark since. Same story now.

J: Davy Russell T: Gordon Elliott, Ireland
Winner of a Grade 3 just after Christmas, he has disappointed since. Dismal effort in the County Hurdle last time, he is well enough regarded to leave that behind. Hard to support on that bare form though.

J: Robbie Power T: W. P. Mullins, Ireland
Two runs in March when chasing home Jezki and Lieutenant Colonel would’ve looked super form if this were 2015. She was turned over at odds on against the latter and while that level of effort is still fair enough, it shouldn’t be enough to win this.
Pravalaguna silk
J: B. Hayes T: W. P. Mullins, Ireland
Lightly raced type was never at the races in the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham. She was well behind Meri Devie in the Quevega previously, has a bit of work to do if she is to get involved in such a deep handicap.

J: Sean Flanagan T: Gordon Elliott, Ireland
Consistent novice has been pitched in deep in Graded company this season. Opening handicap mark is probably just about within his grasp, with heavy ground no issue. Lacks the experience of these races to make him a backable option.

Travelled well for a long way in the County Hurdle last time, she was a shade disappointing given her win in the Quevega Hurdle the time before. Capable enough from this mark but perhaps against her own sex would see her in a better light.

Would’ve gone close in the Fred Winter last season but for falling. Travelled with menace before not getting home in the Coral Cup last time out, the drop in trip will help him. Only two pounds above his Fred Winter effort so not handicapped out of things, but better ground would be ideal.
Abbyssial silk
J: Mr W. J. Gleeson T: W. P. Mullins, Ireland
Progressive in his younger years, perhaps the Cheltenham Festival came up too quick for him following a smart run on his return. This is a workable mark on the best of his efforts, but this still looks too competitive for him at present.
True Self silk
True Self
J: Rachael Blackmore T: W. P. Mullins, Ireland
Placed at Listed level in December, it's no surprise that she was no match for Laurina when last seen. Her opening handicap mark is stiff enough on the bare face of her form, but she has plenty of potential. Any further drying of the ground will suit her well.
