4.35pm Newbury Tips & Betting Preview 22/09/2017

4.35 Newbury tips for Friday’s Class 2 race, raced over the seven furlong distance with many inexperienced runners in the field. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: Lamya sets the standard on known form and has to be respected, but VERACIOUS looks a class above these on paper and should make a winning debut. This Sir Michael Stoute trained daughter of Frankel is related to the likes of Mutakayyef and Intimation, with the dam winning a Group 3 at the age of two. This distance looks ideal on debut and she will hopefully make up to be a smart horse for the future.

1 BOREAGH LASS – Showed very little on debut for Henry Candy, but, in the style of many of his horses, she improved to win a Windsor novice auction over the six furlong distance. That wasn’t a strong race and the form has taken some knocks, so improvement is almost certainly needed if she’s to be winning here under Harry Bentley. Conditions should be fine and she should just miss out on these terms.

2 CHILLALA – Two very modest efforts thus far for the out of form Harry Dunlop yard, only able to muster up seventh on her latest start at Salisbury. That was a backwards step from her debut and, in a race that could throw up some very useful types at the top of the market, it’s very easy to look elsewhere.

4 LAMYA – Showed plenty of promise in a useful Newmarket maiden in July for Tom Marquand and she made all in ready style at Windsor on her latest start. She’s almost certain to enjoy this extra furlong and, with no other guaranteed pace, she is likely to try to make all from the front under Tom Marquand. Conditions should be fine and she sets the standard on known form, so has to be respected.

5 MAGNOLIA SPRINGS – Cost €105,000 as a yearling and this daughter of Shamardal makes her debut for Eve Johnson Houghton, looking like a more long-term prospect. Her pedigree is full of middle distance stamina and she’s likely to come into her own when handicapping at the mile distance and beyond. She has an each way claim with connections in great form, but she would be a surprise winner as she has a good standard to aim at on debut.

6 MELODIES – Made her debut at Salisbury for Ed Dunlop and she shaped with huge amounts of promise, making up plenty of ground inside the final two furlongs and she was doing her best work late on. She’s entitled to come on for that run and she’ll have learned a lot from the experience – she’s likely to do much better on this occasion. She’s an each way player as she does need to improve, but she’s considered.

7 MISS MUMTAZ – Finished second on debut in a very weak and uncompetitive maiden at Wolverhampton and she went backwards when subsequently well held at York. She will need to improve massively if she’s to threaten here and this race isn’t much easier than her last, so she’s easily dismissed.

8 NAQAAWA – Another daughter of Shamardal, this time for Owen Burrows whose two-year-olds are going well this season. She shaped with promise on debut at Glorious Goodwood, keeping on late past beaten rivals after being outpaced at a crucial stage. She’s bred to do much better and a step up in trip will certainly suit her. Jim Crowley takes over and she’s got an each way chance with natural improvement.

9 VERACIOUS – Sir Michael Stoute-trained daughter of Frankel who is a half-sister to horses including the smart Mutakayyef and the useful Intimation. Her dam was a seven furlong winner including at Group 3 level and she races in the colours of the famous Cheveley Park Stud. She has it all there on paper and looks potentially very smart, with Ryan Moore booked on debut. She has a useful standard to aim at, but she looks a class above and should have no issue dismantling this field.
