This trip may well bring out the best in GERONIMO who was only caught close home over further last time out and he ought to prove very difficult to pass if he can get his head in front as expected this afternoon.

A winner two starts ago at Southwell over three miles, an added six pounds and an unfathomable drop back to less than two and a half miles saw him finish a thirty length fifth at Carlisle last month and may well find this trip on the short side as well. Stable going well but still needs a career best off this mark regardless.

Lightly raced with just the six starts over hurdles, two of them successful here at Kelso but both over two miles and not the two and three-quarters he faces here. He was only beaten three-quarters of a length over a furlong shorter back here when looking one paced, but he could do better as he gains experience.

A winner last time out at Ayr when running on strongly over two and a half miles, he needs to improve again off a handicap mark four pounds higher but he certainly wasn’t stopping close home that day. One to consider if he gets home but that has to be open to question on pedigree even if he does run as if he will stay even further.

Second on all three starts over distances from two and a half miles at Ayr in February all the way up to three miles and a furlong at Carlisle last time out when only beaten half a length when caught close home. Up three pounds for his last run he may be harder to peg back over this trip if he can get to the front and with more to come he could well be the surprise package here.

Seven runs without a win now stretching back over a year and a well-beaten forty-five length tenth at Wetherby over a furlong shorter at the end of last month. Down five pounds for that and runs today off a mark six pounds lower than when scoring over course and distance in February 2017 and obviously has a chance at this weight if he can recapture that sort of form, though on recent efforts that seems unlikely.

Won over course and distance in October last year when seeing off Chapel Stile by three-quarters of a length, but that saw him out up nine pounds by the handicapper and he has lost his four starts since. He steps back up in trip after two runs over shorter which should suit but still looks a touch too high in the handicapper even after a four-pound drop.

Has to carry a stone more than his allotted mark of nine stone this afternoon and safe to say that reduces his chances considerably. Third to Haul Us In at Hexham over close to three miles last time and beaten twenty lengths in lower grade he seems up against it here yet even a half decent run will see the handicapper forced to put him up in the weights.
